GOP chair 'speechless' after top FBI official says 'I just haven’t had time' to read Durham report
"It’s very disappointing to hear this," Plfuger said.
Congressional Republicans condemned FBI Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence Jill Murphy at a hearing after she said she has not read special counsel John Durham’s report on her agency's probe into allegations that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia in the 2016 election.
"I have not yet read the Durham report, sir," Murphy told House Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement and Intelligence Homeland Security Subcommittee Chairman August Pfluger during a hearing Tuesday.
"I'm honestly speechless at this point in time. I'm not sure what to think about this as someone who has spent an entire career in counterintelligence," Pfluger, a Texas Republican, responded.
"I just haven’t had time," Murphy said when Pfluger pressed as to why she has not read the report, which was published May 15 and concluded that the FBI did not have verified intelligence or evidence when it opened an investigation into Trump's 2016 campaign.
"I would highly recommend reading that because we spent four years discussing that there was uncorroborated evidence. The Durham report specifically outlines the outcome of that. It’s very disappointing to hear this," Plfuger said.
The 316-page report mentions former FBI Deputy Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Peter Strzok, who held the same title that Murphy currently does, more than 100 times. Strzok, who was fired in 2018 for anti-Trump messages, led the Crossfire Hurricane probe into the since-disproven allegations that the former president colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election.
