GOP Sen. Cotton: Biden's $100 billion funding request 'dead on arrival'
Biden on Thursday delivered a primetime address during which he attempted to convince the public to back additional aid to Ukraine and wartime funding for Israel.
Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton on Friday slammed President Joe Biden's proposed $100 billion spending package with aid to Israel and Ukraine, calling the proposal "dead on arrival" in the Senate.
Biden on Thursday delivered a primetime address during which he attempted to convince the public to back additional aid to Ukraine and wartime funding for Israel. His proposal included $61 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, and $14 billion to bolster border security.
The inclusion of border security funds appeared to be an effort to woo Republicans, though much of the funding included support for resettling and processing illegal entrants, a likely sticking point for the political right.
"President Biden’s slush fund proposal is dead on arrival, just like his budgets," Cotton said, according to The Hill. He further excoriated the inclusion of roughly $11.8 billion for non-military Ukraine aid and the $3.5 billion for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
"The Biden proposal is going nowhere, and Senate Republicans will take the lead on crafting a funding bill that protects Americans and their interests," he continued.
Congress is currently in no state to approve any funding requests as the House is currently without a speaker and unable to process legislation.
