House Republican prepare Trump-preferred budget resolution for full vote as early as Tuesday
Republicans can only afford to lose one vote in order to pass the resolution.
The GOP-led House Rules Committee will meet Monday to prepare President Trump's preferred 2025 budget resolution for a final vote as early as Tuesday.
The House's fiscal 2025 resolution includes $5 trillion in new spending including money for Trump border security initiatives, and it extends the president's 2017 tax cuts.
The $340 billion version the Republican-led Senate passed last week does not extend the tax cuts.
Some House Republicans are hesitant to vote on their chamber's version because of cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, according to the news outlet Politico.
Reps. Thomas Massie, Kentucky, and Victoria Spartz, Indiana, have already said they would not support the resolution. And Reps. Tony Gonzales, Texas., and Nicole Malliotakis, New York, are still undecided due to the concerns about Pell Grants and Medicaid cuts.
Republicans can only afford to lose one vote in order to pass the resolution.
If the House version is passed, negotiators from each chamber will meet to try to draft a compromise version that Congress can pass and Trump can sign. They have until March 14 to get a final bill to Trump's desk before the federal government runs out of money to remain fully operational.
