House Judiciary instructs Biden admin officials to keep their records

Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday instructed multiple Biden administration officials to keep their records amid a series of oversight investigations.

The committee sent the notices to officials in the Justice Department, Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). 

The investigation into the Justice Department's antitrust division surrounds allegations that it has escalated its regulation of American businesses in the final days of the Biden administration. The committee said that it received reports that the division sent letters to businesses regarding enforcement actions.

"With the American people clearly rejecting the failed policies of the Biden-Harris Administration, the Division’s actions are inappropriate and inconsistent with the will of the American people," Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan wrote. "Accordingly, we write to request documents and information about the Antitrust Division’s enforcement actions in the final days of the Biden-Harris Administration."

The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday also accused FTC Commissioner Lina Khan of failing to cooperate with its oversight of the agency, and instructed Khan to turn over all documents that she has withheld from the 118th Congress by the end of the month.

The investigation into the CFTC centers on allegations that it overstepped its authority by hindering competition within event contracts.

"As we transition from the failed policies of the Biden-Harris Administration, we demand that you cease all regulatory effort to allow the incoming Trump Administration to deliver on its mandate from the American people," Jordan wrote.

The committee also teased on X that additional requests are still coming, but did not indicate who would receive those letters.
