The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, following President Trump's executive order to change the name of the gulf.

The bill passed in a 211-206 vote, with 16 not voting, all Democrats and one Republican voting against.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced the bill in January, before Trump's inauguration. The legislation "directs federal agencies to update their documents and maps to incorporate the new name," according to its legislative summary.

The bill will be sent to the Republican-controlled Senate, where it is also expected to pass, then to Trump, whose signature on the measure would solidify his executive order into law.

Google announced in January that it would be referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America following Trump's executive order.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer praised Republicans for delivering Trump's agenda.

“President Trump is 100 percent correct—it only makes sense that the body of water surrounded by five U.S. states, and which our military defends, be formally recognized as the Gulf of America," the Minnesota Republican said in a statement to Just the News. "House Republicans are delivering on the president’s America First agenda by codifying this very popular and needed executive order."
