Trump signs stopgap funding bill passed by Congress, averting government shutdown through Sunday

The House and Senate on Friday night passed a two-day extension of government funding to keep federal agencies fully operational through Sunday night. President Trump signed the legislation to avert a shutdown.

The House passed the bill by a vote of 320-60, while the Senate approved the measure almost immediately afterwards by a voice vote.

The two sides appear to be close on the issue of the nearly $1 trillion COVID-19 economic relief package, but there are still some major differences blocking a final deal. The House will go back into session on Sunday.
