House Republicans gift former interim Speaker McHenry a mini portrait to commemorate three-week role
The mini portrait was presented by McHenry's friend Republican North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson, and is a nod to both the short term and the House Financial Services chair's shorter stature.
House Republicans on Tuesday presented former interim House Speaker Patrick McHenry, who is retiring from Congress at the end of the term, a miniature portrait to commemorate his three-week stint with the speaker's gavel.
McHenry took over as the interim speaker following the ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year, and before Speaker Mike Johnson was elected for the remainder of the term. House speakers receive commissioned portraits, but interim leaders typically do not, according to Politico.
The mini portrait was presented by McHenry's friend Republican North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson, and is a nod to both the short term and the House Financial Services chair's shorter stature. Johnson and other GOP leadership also attended the unveiling.
“I've got great friends, and they know how to treat me well, and roasting me is the right way,” McHenry, who is also from North Carolina, told the outlet.
McHenry, who is only 49 years old, was first elected to the House in 2004, according to his congressional biography.
