Jan. 6 committee chair Thompson tests positive for COVID

Jan. 6 committee chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) on Tuesday announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19. 

Thompson, 74, wrote in a statement that he is vaccinated and boosted and is "experiencing mild symptoms." 

He encouraged Americans to get vaccinated and "continue to do our part" to fight COVID.

The committee said in a press release that it plans on proceeding with Thursday's prime time hearing at the instruction of Thompson.
