Oklahoma GOP Rep. Kevin Hern announced Friday that he would be running for House speakership following fellow Republican Congressman Jim Jordan being removed as speaker designate.

"We need a different type of leader who has a proven track record of success, which is why I’m running for Speaker of the House," Hern wrote on X.

The House GOP conference voted to remove Jordan as speaker-designate Friday after he lost on three ballots of voting for the speakership.

"Jim Jordan's out of the race," Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga., said after a House GOP conference meeting on Friday. "We're supposed to come back for a candidate forum on Monday at 6:30 p.m."

Hern said in his statement that while he voted for Jordan, the conference wants a different representative for the speaker.

"We just had two speaker designates go down," Hern wrote. "We must unify and do it fast. I've spoken to every member of the conference over the last few weeks."
