Matt Gaetz seeks records from DHS calling Harris the 'border czar'
Gaetz gave the DHS until August 30 to respond to his requests.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., on Wednesday requested records from the Department of Homeland Security that refer to Vice President Kamala Harris as the "border czar."
Gaetz specifically requested "all communications between the Office of the Vice President and any employee (including detailees) of the Department of Homeland Security, between March 24, 2021 and March 24, 2022, using the term 'czar,' 'border,' 'migration,' or 'immigration,' in his letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
He further demanded communications referring to Harris as "czar", "lead", or anything other designation signaling she held responsibility for border issues.
Harris has been called the "border czar" at least eight times by the mainstream media since March of 2021, according to Breitbart.
The House last week passed a resolution "strongly condemning" Harris for her handling of the role. At the time, Symone Sanders, Harris's then-chief spokesperson, said she had been tasked with addressing the root causes of migration and to deal with Latin American countries.
Gaetz gave the DHS until August 30 to respond to his requests.
