House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday removed Ohio GOP Rep. Mike Turner as the chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The move comes after conservative House Republicans pushed Johnson to remove Turner over his firm support for Ukraine and other national security stances. He has also been criticized for his handling of a House surveillance bill.

Johnson has not announced a replacement so far.

"I'm very proud to have served on the House Intelligence Committee and as its chairman," Turner said in a press release. "There are great members on the Committee, and I'm honored to have served with them."

Johnson confirmed that this decision did not come from President-elect Donald Trump. He praised Turner for doing a "great job."

"This is a House decision," he said, according to CBS News. "This is no slight whatever to our outgoing chairman."
