Cheney, Kinzinger among 9 House Republicans to break from party to support stopgap funding bill

Nine House Republicans sided late Wednesday with Democrats to vote in support of a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown after GOP leadership recommended a "no" vote.

The bill, which will fund the government for one more week, passed the House in a 224-201 vote before moving to the Senate.

The nine Republicans who voted for the bill are Reps. Liz Cheney (Wyoming), Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), Jaime Herrera Beutler (Wash.), Chris Jacobs (N.Y.), John Katko (N.Y.), Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio), Fred Upton (Mich.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Steve Womack (Ark.), according to The Hill.

Seven of the nine Republicans – Cheney, Jacobs, Kinzinger, Katko, Gonzalez, Herrera Beutler and Upton – are leaving Congress after this term. Womack and Herrera Beutler are both on the House Appropriations Committee.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) had sent out a notice Tuesday recommending for all members to vote against the funding resolution. He called the bill "an attempt to buy additional time for a massive lame-duck spending bill in which House Republicans have had no seat at the negotiating table."
