McCaul-led GOP congressional delegation visits Kyiv
"It’s good President Biden visited Ukraine, but a photo op isn’t enough," the House Foreign Affairs Committee chair said.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul led a congressional delegation Tuesday of four Republicans Ukraine to better understand what Kyiv needs to win the war against Russia.
"It’s good President Biden visited Ukraine, but a photo op isn’t enough," McCaul, a Texas Republican, told Fox News Digital one day after Biden visited Kyiv.
Biden "needs to get Ukraine the weapons they need to win now ... instead of slow-rolling them," he also said.
GOP Reps. Darrell Issa (Calif.), Keith Self (Texas), Max Miller (Ohio) and Jake Ellzey (Texas) joined McCaul for his trip.
Issa also criticized Biden's trip this weekend to Ukraine, calling it "far below the prestige and importance of his office."
He also said late Monday that Biden "once again squandered an opportunity to repair his reputation on the global stage."
On Tuesday, the Republican lawmakers visited Bucha, where hundreds of Ukrainian civilians were reportedly killed by Russian troops. Later in the day, the congressmen met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before holding a press conference in Kyiv.
McCaul has called for the U.S. to increase military support of Ukraine.
He said the longer the war the better for Russia President Vladimir Putin, who invaded Ukraine about a year ago.
"He wants us to be a long protracted war because he knows that potentially he'll lose, we could lose the will of the American people and therefore the Congress," McCaul told CNN over the weekend.
