South Carolina Republican lawmaker taken to hospital after collapsing
It is not clear what caused his collapse, or the status of the congressman, but his team said he is being "evaluated" at a local hospital.
Republican South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson was transported to a hospital in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night, after he collapsed at a function in the nation's capital, his team confirmed.
Wilson, who has been in the House since 2001, participated in two votes earlier in the day. It is not clear what caused his collapse, or the status of the congressman, per NBC News. But his team said he is being "evaluated" at a local hospital.
"Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.," a post on his X account reads.
The incident comes after the 77-year-old Republican said that he had a very busy summer recess, where he made multiple international trips. He also campaigned for reelection back in South Carolina during the month-long break.
