A pair of Republican senators on Monday introduced legislation that aims to help President Donald Trump complete the wall at the U.S.-Mexican border that he started during his first administration.

During his first term in office, Trump completed approximately 460 of the 500-mile wall he had hoped to complete, per The Washington Times. He has vowed to complete the project in his second term in office. The project comes after border security and immigration became among the most dominant issues of the 2024 presidential race, along with the economy and crime.

Sens. James E. Risch of Idaho and Katie Britt of Alabama introduced the "Wall Act," which designates $25 billion to finish the barrier.

“Now is the time to finish the southern border wall,” Risch said in a statement. “The WALL Act helps President Trump complete what he started in his first term and does it all without adding a dime to our national debt. For the last four years, millions of illegal immigrants flooded across our southern border, exploiting open-border policies and wasting vast sums of taxpayer dollars. Those days are over.”

The legislation, if passed, would be funded by closing loopholes and eliminating taxpayer-funded entitlements and tax benefits for illegal migrants. It also imposes fines on migrants who overstay their visas or enter the country illegally.

Britt claimed the bill was "common sense" and would not increase taxes on U.S. citizens.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, John Barrasso of Wyoming, Mike Rounds of South Dakota and Roger Wicker of Mississippi also sponsored the bill.
