Santos jokes about resume fabrications: 'I have no intention of being Speaker... Again'
Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin also joked about Santos' resume fabrications.
New York Republican Rep. George Santos joked about the fabrications on his resume by stating that he does not plan on being House speaker "again" as the House voted to oust California GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the position.
"I've already said I have no intention of being Speaker… Again," Santos posted Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, in response to a user who proposed that the New York Republican could serve as the leader of the lower chamber.
Santos has admitted to what he calls "embellishing" his resume and said he "never worked directly" with major companies such as Goldman Sachs. He faces calls to resign amid multiple investigations and is reportedly discussing a plea deal with federal prosecutors.
Rep. Jamie Raskin also made a joke about Santos' much fabricated resume, which helped him get elected in 2022.
Raskin said that while he was waiting for the McCarthy removal vote, told fellow Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz, of Florida, "there was never so much chaos in the House when George Santos was Speaker."
When Moskowitz relayed the joke to Santos, the GOP lawmaker replied, "That’s why I don’t want to be Speaker again," Raskin wrote on X, relaying the conversation.
Santos responded to Raskin's post, "You damn right there wasn't!"
