Secret Service, FBI to brief Congress today on Trump assassination attempt
The briefing by the senior officials is the first step in the congressional probe into the security failures surrounding the attempt on Trump's life at his July 13 Pennsylvania rally.
Senior Secret Service and FBI officials are set to brief the House on Wednesday about the assassination attempt on GOP presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump.
A source familiar with the plans told Just the News Wednesday that the House-wide briefing will be held virtually and is scheduled to take place at 3:30 PM. USSS Deputy Director Ronald Rowe and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate are the senior officials designated to brief Congress.
The briefing was already delayed one day when the Department of Homeland Security took over communications between the House Oversight Committee and the Secret Service in a way Republicans thought was "unprofessional," according to a statement from the committee's spokeswoman shared with Just the News Tuesday..
A DHS spokesperson told Just the News in a statement Tuesday that "DHS responds to congressional requests directly via official channels, and the Department will continue to respond appropriately to Congressional oversight."
The briefing by the senior officials is the first step in the congressional probe into the security failures surrounding the attempt on Trump's life at his July 13 Pennsylvania rally that left one rally-goer dead and two others injured, in addition to the former president, who was shot in the ear.
The committee has also requested the U.S. Secret Service turn over information and records related the rally, including documents, communications, and recordings from the planning stages and the event itself.
Additionally, USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle is still expected to appear for testimony before the Oversight Committee on Monday, July 22 at 10:00 AM.
