Six House Republicans joined with their Democratic colleagues Wednesday night to pass a resolution that seeks to end President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada in a stunning rebuke of the president.

The House adopted the resolution in a bipartisan 219-211 split and comes after Trump imposed the tariffs last year over the country's failure to prevent fentanyl from flowing across the United States' northern border.

Democratic New York Rep. Gregory Meeks introduced the resolution last March but House Republicans blocked the vote until January.

The six House Republicans who voted with most of the Democrats are Reps. Don Bacon of Nebraska, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Jeff Hurd of Colorado, Kevin Kiley of California, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Dan Newhouse of Washington.

Democratic Maine Rep. Jared Golden voted against the resolution.

The vote is largely viewed as symbolic because Trump is expected to veto it, which would need a two-thirds majority in both chambers to overturn.
