Stefanik demands local New York official resign after comparing Trump to 'rabid dog' after shooting
Potsdam Town Council member Christine Paige posted a comment online following the shooting, where she compared the assassination attempt on Trump to "putting down a rabid dog."
New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik on Wednesday called for a local official to resign after they made an inappropriate comment about former President Donald Trump getting shot in Pennsylvania.
Trump was injured in a shooting at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, where two others were also seriously injured and one rally attendee was killed. The shooter was killed by a Secret Service sniper.
Potsdam Town Council member Christine Paige posted a comment online following the shooting, where she compared the assassination attempt on Trump to "putting down a rabid dog."
"I have seen no credible proof that he’s a human being. Maybe you know something we don’t. To me, it would be akin to putting down a rabid dog," Paige reportedly wrote, per Fox News. The comment has since been deleted.
Another Potsdam council member claimed Paige's comment does not reflect the views of the rest of the council.
Stefanik claimed Paige should resign her post after the comment, and demanded the Democratic Party in New York condemn the rhetoric.
"Far Left Democrats supporting political violence and the assassination of President Trump are shameful and do not deserve to represent the great people of the North Country," Stefanik told Fox News. "Potsdam Town Board Member Christine Paige must be condemned by the NY Democrat State Party, and she must resign in disgrace after she said shooting President Trump would be like ‘putting down a rabid dog.’"
Democrats have also condemned Paige's comment, but Paige has rejected calls to resign so far, according to a local outlet NNY360.
