Teamsters president calls GOP Sen. Markwayne Mullin 'greedy CEO'

GOP Sen. Markwayne Mullin had a tense exchange with Teamsters President Sean O'Brien, who called the Oklahoma Republican lawmaker a "greedy CEO" during a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing  on unions.

After Mullin told O'Brien he was "sucking the paycheck" out of workers for his salary, which was about $193,000 in 2019, O'Brien said the senator was "out of line," The Hill reported.

"Don’t tell me I’m out of line," Mullin replied. "You need to shut your mouth."

Later in the hearing, O'Brien directly criticized Mullin, who owned non-union plumbing companies until he sold his majority stakes in 2021.

"We hold greedy CEOs like yourself accountable," O’Brien said. "You want to attack my salary, I’ll attack yours. What did you make when you owned your company?"

Mullin said his salary was around $50,000 and he invested the additional money back into his companies.

"You mean you hid money," O'Brien said.

Mullin's net worth shot up to between $31.6 million to $75.6 million after he sold his companies, the Tulsa World reported in October.
