Trump announces official appointment of Florida GOP Rep. Mike Waltz as his national security advisor
"Mike is the first Green Beret to have been elected to Congress, and previously served in the White House and Pentagon," Trump wrote in an emailed statement.
President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., will serve as his national security advisor in his second term.
"I am honored to announce that Congressman Mike Waltz (R-FL) is hereby appointed to serve in my Cabinet as my National Security Advisor," Trump wrote in an emailed statement. "Mike is the first Green Beret to have been elected to Congress, and previously served in the White House and Pentagon."
News outlets reported over the weekend that Trump was going to pick Waltz. The Wall Street Journal was the first to get the scoop.
"Mike retired as a Colonel, and is a nationally recognized leader in National Security, a bestselling author, and an expert on the threats posed by China, Russia, Iran, and global terrorism," Trump's statement continued. "He serves as a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence."
Waltz currently represents Florida's sixth congressional district.
