Trump endorses Arizona GOP rep. in Maricopa County board of supervisors race
Trump said Lesko, who is one of his allies in Congress, was an "incredible Congresswoman" and a friend to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
Former President Donald Trump gave a rare endorsement to retiring GOP Rep. Debbie Lesko on Thursday in her race to help oversee the certification of election results in Maricopa County.
Lesko announced her retirement from the House last October, to run for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in District 4. The new role would “[set] the agenda and [approve] a budget that allocates money to all departments and elected offices,” according to the county, but also certifies county election results.
Maricopa County was one of several counties in the United States that witnessed voting irregularities, and went to President Joe Biden by just two percentage points, according to The Hill.
Trump said Lesko, who is one of his allies in Congress, was an "incredible congresswoman" and a friend to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
“Debbie has been with us from the beginning, fighting hard through impeachment hoax #1, impeachment hoax #2, and understood many of the bad things going on better than most,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
“She will work tirelessly to Safeguard our Elections, Protect our Communities, Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Grow the Economy, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," he continued. "Debbie Lesko has my Complete and Total Endorsement — SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN."
Lesko reacted to Trump's endorsement in her own post to social media, saying she was "honored" to have his support.
“I look forward to working with President Trump when he is back in the White House for the great people of our county!” Lesko posted to X.
Arizona is considered an important battleground state in the 2024 presidential election this November. It went to Biden by just 10,457 votes in 2020, per the Associated Press.
