Trump to meet with Senate Republicans for policy discussions Thursday: Report
The meeting is expected to be policy-oriented, as the country and the party prepare for the November elections and the Republican National Convention in July.
Former President Donald Trump is expected to meet with Senate Republicans on Thursday, according to The Hill, after attending a discussion with the corporation Business Roundtable.
The meeting is expected to be policy-oriented, as the country and the party prepare for the November elections and the Republican National Convention in July. Topics in the meeting will include: Foreign policy, border security, the economy, and the future of Social Security.
Republican Sen. John Barrasso invited Trump to the meeting, which will take place away from Capitol Hill, although meetings normally take place at the Capitol.
“I believe it will be helpful to hear directly from former President Trump about his plans for the summer and to also share our ideas for a strategic governing agenda in 2025,” Barrasso told his fellow Republican senators an email obtained by The Hill.
The meeting comes as Senate Republicans consider who their next leader will be in November. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced in February that he will step down as Republican leader after the general election.
Trump's relationship with McConnell has been shaky in recent years, but McConnell endorsed the former president in March. Trump has a better relationship with Barrasso and Florida Sen. Rick Scott, who are both vying to replace McConnell as leader.
