President Donald Trump on Wednesday slammed Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett for mocking her state's governor Greg Abbott as "governor hot wheels," in a perceived slight at his use of a wheelchair.

Crockett made the comment at an event over the weekend for the Human Rights Campaign in Los Angeles, where she stated "We in these hot a** Texas streets, honey. Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there, come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a** mess, honey!"

The Democrat has denied that the comment was a reference to his wheelchair, stating that it was intended to refer to the "planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by black mayors," which she accused him of doing to specifically stoke fear in the migrant community. 

Abbott has been confined to a wheelchair since he was 26, when he was left paralyzed by a falling tree while he was out jogging, according to Fox News. 

Trump appeared to reject Crockett's new characterization of her remark, telling conservative radio host Vince Coglianese that the congresswoman was a "low-life."

"She’s a lowlife, and she’s a very low-IQ person," the president said. "I don’t imagine the Democrats are going to have a person like that running their party."

When asked if he believed that Crockett lied in her defense on social media, Trump admitted that he did believe it was a lie and that he actually thought she was a comedian when he first saw the clip.

"At first, I thought she was a comedian. I couldn’t believe she was a congressman or whatever she is," he said. "[I thought] she was a little bit funny, but crude, and now I found out she’s actually a politician. The Democrats are going to suffer with this one."
