Donald Trump's top attorney in the federal criminal indictment case, Jim Trusty, is no longer representing the former president.

Trusty was one of several Trump lawyers countering attempts by the federal government to investigate the former president's handling of government records after he left office, including those that he took to his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

Trump said Thursday evening that he was indicted, and Trusty confirmed that to at least one news outlet later that night.

Trusty and another Trump lawyer, John Rowley, resigned according to a news report from Politico. However, a source told Just the News that Trusty was fired.

According to a joint statement obtained by CBS, Trusty and Rowley said that they resigned and aren't representing Trump anymore.

"It has been an honor to have spend the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated," Trusty and Rowley said in a joint statement.

Trump said in a Truth Social post on the matter: "For purposes of fighting the Greatest Witch Hunt of all time, now moving to the Florida Courts, I will be represented by Todd Blanche, Esq., and a firm to be named later.

"I want to thank Jim Trusty and John Rowley for their work. ...  We will be announcing additional lawyers in the coming days."
