Fani Willis, Nathan Wade referred to Georgia bar for alleged ethics violations
The Georgia state bar is being urged to permanently ban both Willis and Wade from practicing law.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and the special prosecutor she appointed to the Trump election case, Nathan Wade, are both facing ethics complaints from the American Accountability Foundation, a conservative watchdog group, which has asked the Georgia state bar to begin disciplinary proceedings against the duo.
The foundation alleges that Wade lied under oath about his romantic relationship with Willis and that Willis admitted on the witness stand to using her campaign money for personal expenses, Fox News reported Thursday.
"To ensure that the citizens of Fulton County and the State of Georgia understand that the Bar will not countenance any violation of its ethics by those charged with upholding it, we urge you to revoke Ms. Willis’ license to practice law and permanently bar her from practicing law," the complaint states. The foundation makes the same request in another complaint against Wade.
Willis had testified earlier this month during a hearing about whether she should be disqualified from prosecuting Trump that she reimbursed Wade with cash, without bank or transaction receipts, when she went on romantic outings with him.
"Cash is fungible. I’ve had cash for years in my house. So for me to tell you the source of where it comes from ... when you go to Publix and you buy something and you get fifty dollars and you throw it in there. It’s been my whole life. When I took out a large amount of money during my first campaign, I kept some of the cash of that," she said, per the foundation.
Before the story broke about the foundation's complaint, it posted on X, formerly Twitter: "We are about to drop an ATOM BOMB on Fulton County's sad joke of a district attorney, Fani Willis. This is gonna be INSANE!"
