Fani Willis' dad says unaware until recently of daughter's relationship with Wade, in Trump case
“I did not meet Nathan Wade until 2023, about a year ago, when a reporter … interviewed me," John Floyd testified.
The father of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis testified Friday that he did not know until recently about his daughter's relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
“I did not meet Nathan Wade until 2023, about a year ago, when a reporter … interviewed me. That was the first time I met him,” John Floyd testified, according to CNN.
Floyd said that Willis never told him about her relationship with Wade before that day.
A hearing was held on Thursday regarding Willis’ relationship with Wade and the resulting potential conflicts of interest regarding the election fraud case against former President Donald Trump.
Willis last year indicted Trump and 18 co-defendants over their efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in Georgia. She had hired Wade as a special prosecutor to pursue the case.
Wade and Willis admitted that they had a relationship in 2022. However, an ex-Fulton County employee testified that their relationship started before Willis picked Wade to lead the investigation into the 45th president in 2021.
Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the hearing, on Monday suggested that Willis could be removed from the case, explaining that the allegations against her "could result in a disqualification."
