Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook filed a lawsuit on Thursday over President Donald Trump firing her, claiming he doesn't have the authority to do so.

Cook filed the lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C., The Guardian reported.

Trump said Monday that Cook was dismissed from her position on the Fed’s board of governors “effective immediately” over an allegation from one of his allies that she had obtained a mortgage on a second home she incorrectly described as her primary residence.

Cook argued that Trump had “no authority” to fire her.

“I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy,” Cook said after Trump said she was dismissed. Her lawyer had indicated she would file a lawsuit.
