Foreign national sentenced to prison for mailing ricin to Trump in 2020
Her sentencing comes as Trump may face jail time himself in connection with four indictments against him.
A dual citizen of France and Canada who mailed ricin to former President Donald Trump received 262 months in prison on Thursday in connection with the September 2020 incident and other mailings she sent to Texas law enforcement.
Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier pleaded guilty on Jan. 25 in two separate criminal cases. She admitted to making ricin at her Quebec residence, placing it in toxic envelopes, and sending them to Trump and Texas law enforcement personnel, the Department of Justice stated.
After her prison term, Ferrier will face a lifetime of supervised release. She previously spent 10 weeks in 2019 in Texas custody related to a tweet requesting that someone "shoot [T]rump in the face."
Her sentencing comes as Trump may face jail time himself in connection with four indictments against him. Trump faces two federal cases from special counsel Jack Smith in connection to his efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results and his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
He also faces charges from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over a 2016 payment to Stormy Daniels and a fourth indictment from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis related to his election challenge in that state.
