House sergeant at arms staffer charged in connection with possessing child pornography

A Capitol Hill employee who works for the House's sergeant-at-arms has been charged with possession of child pornography, according to police.

The employee, Stefan Bieret, of northern Virginia, has been charged with 10 felonies related to possessing child pornography, The Washington Post reported over the weekend.

The 41-year-old Bieret was arrested Wednesday in connection to the charges, Fairfax County police said.

The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified several months ago of a potentially illicit image uploaded to a Dropbox account, according to the Associated Press. 

A search warrant on the Dropbox account turned up additional images of child sexual abuse, and subsequent search warrants led detectives to identify the owner of the account as Bieret, officials said.

County detectives executed a search warrant on Bieret's home and recovered multiple electronics.

Bieret works as a program manager for the sergeant at arms, the House's chief law enforcement and protocol officer responsible for maintaining order in that chamber's side of the U.S. Capitol complex. 

Bieret has reportedly worked for Congress since 2004. 

The House sergeant at arm at the time of the Jan. 6 Capitol breach, Timothy Blodgett, resigned in the aftermath of the incident. William Walker was appointed to the post April 22.
