Iowa and Missouri are suing New York over its Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program, arguing it's an "unconstitutional attempt to regulate businesses, consumers and individuals beyond [New York’s] borders."

Fox News on Wednesday published an op-ed from Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway, arguing that the law imposes civil and criminal obligations on out-of-state producers and distributors, "even if the connection to the state is extremely remote or hypothetical."

The Center for Individual Rights is representing Iowa, Missouri and the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce in the lawsuit, which was filed in May with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

The lawsuit alleges New York’s “latest attempt to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, including activity and emissions occurring outside of New York, violates core constitutional principles.”
