A federal judge on Monday convicted a former D.C. police officer of obstructing an investigation into former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio prior to the events of the Jan 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill.

Shane Lamond, as a lieutenant on the District of Columbia's Metropolitan Police Department, leaked to Tarrio information about an investigation into Tarrio’s role in a previous incident, the burning of a Black Lives Matter banner in December 2020, Politico reported.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Monday leaked critical information to Tarrio that helped him with his plans to travel to the capital for the 2021 riot. Lamond also attempted to cover up the leak by deleting his conversations on the encrypted communications app Telegram.

Tarrio was convicted last year of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to 22 years in prison, despite not partaking in the riot or even being in Washington D.C. himself. However, he was one of the primary orchestrators of the riot, according to the Associated Press.

Lamond was also convicted on three counts of lying to investigators about his relationship with Tarrio, by misleading colleagues about the extent of his contact with Tarrio during the Black Lives Matter investigation.

Lamond's sentencing is scheduled for April 3.
