Judge dismisses X lawsuit against Center for Countering Digital Hate
The Center for Countering Digital Hate is a non-profit organization that documented an increase in "hate speech" since Elon Musk purchased the platform.
A judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit from social media platform X against the Center for Countering Digital Hate that saw the platform claim it lost out on advertising revenue due to the organization's reporting.
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer dismissed the suit, contending that X cannot seek restitution against the organization for the decisions of third-party advertisers to leave the platform, the Associated Press reported. The Center for Countering Digital Hate is a non-profit organization that documented an increase in "hate speech" since Elon Musk purchased the platform.
"Today a federal court in San Francisco issued a decision in the case X brought against the Center for Countering Digital Hate for illegally obtaining platform data to create misleading research. X disagrees with the court's decision and plans to appeal," the platform posted.
Musk announced a suit against Media Matters for America (MMFA), a separate online watchdog in November after the organization published an article showcasing the platform's pairing of ads next to offensive materials. Musk alleged that MMFA had deliberately manipulated the algorithm to obtain the desired ad pairings.
