Judge orders release of some illegals who allegedly took part in 'border riot'

A local judge in Texas on Sunday ordered the release of a number of alleged participants in an incident during which illegal aliens forced their way past National Guardsmen on the southern border.

El Paso Presiding Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta issued the decision stating "[i]t is the ruling of the court that all the rioting participation cases will be released on their own recognizance," the El Paso Times reported.

The incident saw the Texas Department of Public Safety arrest roughly 220 people. Thirty-nine remain jailed due to federal detainers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, though the exact number of defendants who secured release due to Acosta's ruling is unclear.

The decision drew backlash from Republicans, including Oklahoma GOP Rep. Josh Brecheen, who deemed Acosta's move "[a]bsolutely ridiculous."

"We need to bring back law and order in this country," he added.

Video footage of the March 21 disruption went viral on social media and depicted a large crowd forcing its way through a line of personnel before coming to a larger wall.
