Judge orders Steve Bannon to pay nearly $500,000 to lawyers
Bannon had paid $375,000 out of the more than $850,000 in bills he had received, the judge also noted.
A judge ordered former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon to pay nearly $500,000 in legal fees to the law firm that represented him on various issues, including his fight against his subpoena from the House Jan. 6 Capitol riot committee.
The law firm Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP sued Bannon earlier this year, claiming that he did not pay his legal bills for their work defending him in the congressional probe as well as in the criminal investigations into his efforts to raise money to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.
New York Judge Arlene Bluth issued an order last week requiring Bannon to hand over $480,487.87 in unpaid bills along with "reasonable legal fees" to his former firm that brought the case against him, according to court documents filed Tuesday with the New York County Clerk.
Bannon had said he never "personally received" invoices for the legal work "while also admitting that he would not have paid them anyway (his team would handle the payment)," the judge wrote in the order.
Bannon had already paid some of his legal bill before the judge's order. He had paid $375,000 out of the more than $850,000 in bills he had received, the judge also noted.
