TikTok will on Friday urge Supreme Court justices to delay or overturn a new federal law that will ban the China-based social media app by Jan. 19  in the U.S. if it does not sever cut ties with parent company ByteDance.

The case centers whether the federal government has the legal authority to effectively ban TikTok in the U.S. if its China-based owner does not sell the social media platform.

The case is a consolidation of two cases: TikTok, Inc. v. Garland, Att'y Gen. and Firebaugh v. Garland, Att'y Gen.
