Menendez associate pleads guilty to multiple counts, including bribery conspiracy
Uribe's Friday plea included both the original two charges in the indictment, as well as an additional five.
Former New Jersey insurance broker Jose Uribe on Friday pleaded guilty to seven counts related to bribery allegations against New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez.
The indictment from last year alleged that in 2018 the Senator's now-wife, was in a car accident and that Uribe worked to secure a new vehicle for her in exchange for Menendez's help stifling an investigation into him.
Uribe's Friday plea included both the original two charges in the indictment, as well as an additional five, The Hill reported. Among those were counts of conspiracy to commit bribery, obstruction of justice, and tax evasion. His sentencing will occur on June 14.
Menendez and wife, for their part, have both pleaded not guilty. The Senator has resisted calls to resign but did step down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
His trial is scheduled for May 6.
