The mother of George Floyd's daughter filed a $250 million lawsuit against rapper Kanye West in response to comments that Floyd died of fentanyl use, not at the hands of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of his death.

Floyd's family issued a cease-and-desist letter to West, also known as Ye, through the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law, Houston's NBC affiliate reported Tuesday.

A medical examiner during the trial of Chauvin last year said underlying health conditions and drug use, including fentanyl and methamphetamines, contributed to Floyd's death in May 2020.

During an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast, West said Floyd's death was caused by fentanyl use.

"If you look [Chauvin's] knee wasn't even on [Floyd's] neck," said West, who recently made headlines for wearing a "White Lives Matter" shirt.

Attorneys for Roxie Washington, the mother of Gianna Floyd, said West made "false statements about George Floyd's death to promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates," the Houston outlet reported.

The family also claimed West spread "malicious falsehoods" about Floyd in order to profit.

"George Floyd's daughter is being traumatized by Kanye West's comments and he's creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her," an attorney for the family said.

West, who has been accused of antisemitism several times in recent weeks, also came under fire on the podcast for his remarks about Jews.

"What I'm doing is I'm #MeTooing the Jewish culture," West said, among other things. "Y'all gotta stand up and admit to what y'all have been doing."

The podcast episode has since been removed from multiple platforms.
