A New York appeals court on Thursday suspended the law license of former President Donald Trump's ally Kenneth Chesebro, after he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia's wide-reaching racketeering case.

Chesebro was indicted alongside Trump in Fulton County last year, along with 17 other co-defendants, in relation to the alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the Peach state. He was indicted on seven charges, but pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit filing false documents. He also agreed to testify in the case.

The court said the conviction in Georgia "categorically meets the definition of a serious crime in this state."

“Having concluded that respondent has been convicted of a serious crime, we accordingly suspend respondent from the practice of law in New York on an interim basis," the court wrote.

It is not clear how long the suspension will be in place, but it was "effective immediately."

Chesebro is still licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, California, Texas, Florida, and Illinois, according to NBC News.

The New York attorney is just one of several Trump-aligned attorneys to have their licenses suspended, or be disbarred, over the Georgia case. Jenna Ellis and former Republican New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani have also experienced such repercussions.
