Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes released from prison following commutations by Trump
President Trump commuted the 18 year sentence of Rhodes along with 13 other January 6 participants
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes has been released from prison following President Trump on Monday commuted his sentence along whose of 13 other previously convicted in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot.
Rhode's was sentenced in May 2023 to 18 years in prison after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in November 2022.
In presidential action posted on the official White House website, Trump commuted 14 sentences and granted "a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021." The President also instructed the Attorney General to dismiss all pending charges related to January 6.
"This proclamation ends a grave national injustice that has been perpetrated upon the American people over the last four years and begins a process of national reconciliation," Trump wrote in preface to the action.
The 14 sentences commuted in the action also include several other Oath keeper members. Trump also commuted the sentence of Proud Boys founder Henry Tarrio.
