District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Judge Jeanine Pirro formally announced charges against former Olympian David Hearn in a press conference Thursday afternoon.

“Today a grand jury has returned a felony indictment against a defendant, David Hearn, for felony destruction of property for which he faces 10 years in prison,” Pirro stated. “These landmarks and monuments belong to all of us, and they must be protected for generations to come.”

Hearn, who has denied any wrongdoing, was arrested last month after authorities said he damaged the newly renovated pool.

Pirro went on to add: "Our evidence further shows that the National Park Service employees observed Hearn actually forcefully and violently pulling up and removing the bottom liner with both hands. According to witnesses, Hearn damaged approximately two square feet of sealant from the bottom of the pool."
