Prosecutor in Marilyn Mosby case gets demoted
Wise had been pursuing a case against Mosby, who faces accusations of lying on mortgage applications among other alleged financial crimes.
The federal prosecutor overseeing the case against from Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby has been demoted.
Leo Wise, who has served in the U.S. Attorney's Office for District of Maryland for 13 years, was recently removed from his post as head of the Fraud and Public Corruption Unit, according to Fox45.
He previously participated in the investigation of former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, during which Robert Hur, the now-special counsel investigating President Joe Biden's alleged mishandling of classified documents, secured her plea on tax and fraud charges.
The reason for Wise's demotion was not immediately clear, though the outlet noted that U.S. Attorney Erek Barron has discretion over staffing within his office.
