Juvenile gunman kills at least 5, including off-duty cop, during rampage in Raleigh neighborhood
North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is coordinating with state law enforcement to respond.
At least five people including an off-duty officer were killed Thursday night in a mass shooting near a walking trail in a Raleigh, N.C., neighborhood, police said.
Police said a suspect, identified only as a white juvenile male, was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a home.
“Tonight, terror has reached our doorstep. The nightmare of every community has come to Raleigh. This is a senseless horrific and infuriating act of violence that has been committed,” Gov. Roy Cooper told reporters.
"The Raleigh Police Department is currently on the scene of an active shooting in the area of the Neuse River Greenway near Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive. Residents in that area are advised to remain in their homes," the department posted earlier in the evening.
It further advised local residents to remain indoors.
Fox News Digital reported that at least four victims have entered WakeMed hospital, citing a spokesperson from the facility.
