The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump to resume construction on the White House Ballroom indefinitely.

The court ruled 5-4 in favor of the Trump administration's request to stay lower court rulings, NBC News reported. Notably, Chief Justice John Roberts joined with the court's liberals in dissenting, despite granting an initial stay that allowed construction in the short term.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States brought the suit, arguing that Trump lacked authorization from Congress to begin construction on the project.

The ballroom is roughly two-thirds complete already and is one of the most contentious of Trump's projects to "beautify" the nation's capital.

He has also renovated fountains, polished statues, repaired the Reflecting Pool, cleaned up graffiti, and deployed the National Guard to crack down on crime.
