The Supreme Court on Friday declined to intervene in a case over a West Texas A&M student group's attempt to host a drag show on campus.

Spectrum WT, had sought to hold the March 22 event despite the university's opposition and has challenged the school's policy, citing the First Amendment, NBC News reported. The organization had sought an emergency order to permit that the event go on as planned, which the court declined to issue without explanation.

University President Walter Wendler rejected the group's request to hold an on-campus event last year, calling the performance "derisive, divisive and demoralizing." Spectrum WT has billed the event as PG-13, which would permit underaged persons to attend with their parents.

The case is not over, however, as the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in April. That court previously declined to expedite the case, CNN reported. US District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk made the initial ruling in favor of the university.
