Texas AG Paxton's investigation leads ActBlue to require CVV codes when people make donations
ActBlue is a political action committee that does fundraising for Democratic nonprofits and politicians.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that his investigation into ActBlue has resulted in the Democrat-affiliated PAC now requiring CVV codes as a security measure when people make donations.
The political action committee fundraises for Democratic nonprofits and politicians.
"ActBlue has cooperated with our ongoing investigation," Paxton wrote Thursday on the social media platform X. "They have changed their requirements to now include ‘CVV’ codes for donations on their platform. This is a critical change that can help prevent fraudulent donations."
In December of 2023, Paxton opened up an investigation to ActBlue after alleging that the organization was conducting fraudulent activity regarding donations.
CVV codes, the three-digit security number on the back of credit and debit cards, are often required when donations are given for security measures and there were allegations that those codes were not required with ActBlue.
"While campaign finance is protected by the First Amendment, suspicious activity on fundraising platforms must be fully investigated to determine if any laws have been broken," Paxton said.
