Trump notches $100 million legal deal with big law firm amid row over security clearances
It also agreed to commit to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention, to refrain from DEI, and to use outside counsel to ensure compliance, Trump confirmed on Truth Social.
President Donald Trump has secured a deal with the major law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP to provide $100 million in pro bono legal services during his administration and to refrain from supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives as the firm cozies up to the White House.
The deal follows Trump's order revoking the clearances of Perkins Coie, for what he called "dishonest and dangerous activity." That firm has since sued, but the episode has other law firms looking to get in Trump's good graces to avoid a similar row.
Skadden committed to $100 million in pro bono legal services to causes both the firm and Trump himself support, specifically "[a]ssisting Veterans and other Public Servants, including members of the Military, Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Federal, State, and Local Government Officials; ensuring fairness in our Justice System; and combatting Antisemitism."
It also agreed to commit to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention, to refrain from DEI, and to use outside counsel to ensure compliance, Trump confirmed on Truth Social.
“Skadden is pleased to have achieved a successful agreement with President Trump and his Administration," Executive Partner Jeremy London said. "We engaged proactively with the President and his team in working together constructively to reach this agreement. The Firm looks forward to continuing our productive relationship with President Trump and his Admin. We firmly believe that this outcome is in the best interests of our clients, our people, and our Firm.”
