Verdict in New York civil fraud case to come next week: Report

A verdict in New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James's civil fraud case against former President Donald Trump will likely come next week, Business Insider reported, citing a "source familiar with the timing."

James is seeking at least $370 million from the Trump organization, alleging that he manipulated the value of his assets to secure favorable loan terms and lower insurance premiums. Trump has contended that the case is part of a political witch hunt designed to derail his 2024 bid for the White House and denies wrongdoing.

New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron oversaw the non-jury trial and initially suggested he would release the verdict by the end of the month, though Business Insider's source indicated the verdict would arrive roughly around Feb. 5.

Trump raged against Engoron throughout much of the trial, accusing both him and his clerk of bias and prompting the judge to impose a gag order on him. Before the trial began, Engoron determined in summary judgement that Trump had committed fraud. The trial proceeded on additional charges.

The former president will likely appeal an unfavorable decision from the judge.
