The Department of Justice has reportedly brought evidence to a federal grand jury, hoping to secure the indictment of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson for allegedly lying to Congress.

Punchbowl News first reported that the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ brought the evidence before a grand jury on Tuesday.

Hutchinson was a key witness for the House Jan. 6 Committee and its investigation of the incident at the Capitol. She also testified that President Donald Trump had attempted to grab the wheel from his driver and redirect the presidential vehicle to the Capitol.

The exact statements the DOJ presented as untrue to the grand jury have not been disclosed, and it has yet to decide on the indictment. But Hutchinson's story has faced scrutiny for years and Republicans have long worked to expose what they believe to have been unethical conduct by the members of the committee.
