FBI releases new footage and information about J6 pipe bomb suspect
The new footage of the suspect placing the bomb outside of the Democratic Party headquarters was taken from a different angle than previous videos, and showed the person placing the bomb near a bench. It also estimated the height of the suspect is approximately five-feet seven inches, but it is not clear if the suspect was male or female.
The FBI on Thursday released new information and footage concerning the person suspected of placing pipe bombs near the Republican and Democratic headquarters on the night before the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill in 2021.
The FBI has been stumped over the suspect, who still remains unidentified, even after it dropped several surveillance videos of the suspect who was in a grey hoodie and wore Nike Air Max Speed Turf sneakers and a mask. The FBI is also offering a substantial $500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“We have never stopped working [the case]," David Sundberg, an F.B.I. assistant director in charge who leads the F.B.I.’s Washington field office, told the New York Times. “The bureau has both a long memory and a long reach, and we fully intend to work this case to its ultimate conclusion.”
Sunberg said that he hopes the new information and footage will prompt people to look at the case in a new light and report information on the suspect.
“Tips from the public really have been very helpful but ... we’re still trying to identify the suspect," Sunberg told CNN. "So we’re trying to release a little more information such that maybe it will jog somebody’s memory.
"The case has been hampered by the difficulty in identifying the suspect," he continued. "You can see that in the video that the suspect is wearing a hood and mask and gloves, nearly entirely covered. The available surveillance camera footage in the area is a bit sporadic. It certainly is not all the same quality.”
The bureau's new information comes the same day that the House committees probing security failures of Jan. 6 released a report, slamming federal officials for not finding the pipe bomber.
"A serious, and largely overlooked, security failure on January 6 was the delayed discovery of both pipe bombs and the chaotic response of federal law enforcement after their discovery," the report reads. “Nearly four years later, federal law enforcement has yet to identity the individual responsible for planting the pipe bombs, which remains one of the unanswered questions from that day."
